The children are excited. Last year we actually looked at the arts and crafts. There was next to no canning. Or crafts. Just a few. There were several plates of fresh veggies. But even that was way less than the fair back home.
So in true Roehrman fashion... We waited til this week to make anything. But they have been working hard on things. Several things have been canned. I'll get pictures tomorrow on our way to drop them off. So far they have done
1: tomatoes (Wisdom)
2: pickled watermelon rind (Rhyyan)
3: Rainbow salsa (Joelle)
4:pickled Okra (Malachi)
5: applesauce (Joelle)
6: apple pie filling (Rhyyan)
7: pickled peppers (Lilley)
8: peaches (Rhyyan)
Mint jelly(Judah) peach jam(Lilley) apple jelly(Lilley) are planned. The children know their way around the kitchen. But I am so impressed with their ability in canning with looks in mind. They even used rulers in hopes of better uniformity in their jars.
As well as picking potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, and peppers. Joelle also is making a diaper and harness for her quail to enter the pet contest.
Seems the main thing entered in the fair is photos. But the children still have some they want to enter. So I'll be printing them out tomorrow for them. Planning on 5 by 7 sizes. And card stock matting.
Rhyyan caught a turtle for the turtle race. He was eating from several squash in the garden. Naughty guy. And they will also do the other races on Saturday morning. The other children are hoping for a turtle as well. We will see... But this I know: any and all turtles found will go to live near the creek in town. Not in my garden.
I entered several things in the fair as a teen. But nothing since. I'm excited to see how the children like it.
If they are planning to enter anything else I haven't heard of it yet. But I'll post about it if they do. Pictures to come as well.
